The Colombo Branch of the Matale Old Thomians’ Association have dedicated their annual signature event “Thomians’ Nite” to felicitate the fellow Thomian, Commander of Sri Lanka Army, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva at the Balmoral Ballroom, Hotel Kingsbury .
The Evening was full of excitement and fun with the music provided by the band of Srilanka Army with our own Sanath Wimalasiri and Mariazelle Gunatilleke and the dancing troupe of Sri Lanka Army.
Delivering the Prologue , another proud product of mother STC, the renowned author, announcer and poet Mr. Chulabhaya Herath took us back to those memorable school life where we all used to enjoy those carefree days.
General Silva, in his address, paid tribute to the great Principal of St. Thomas’ College, late Mr. A J Wijesinghe and all his teachers for molding him from his younger days as a student to shoulder various positions with added responsibilities. He mentioned that the confidence and exposure he gained as the captain of College cricket teams, as the Sergeant of junior cadeting, Regimental Sergeant Major of the cadet band and more importantly as the College head prefect, paved the way to excel and stand above others, as a respectable and responsible military officer, from the time he joined Sri Lanka Army.
The occasion was graced by many old Thomians who are in the forefront of many state and private sector institutions, top brass officers representing tri-forces and leading legal professionals.
