Thomians’ Avurudu Udawa 2025 – Celebrating Tradition, Friendship, and Thomian Spirit

The Colombo Branch of the St. Thomas’ College, Matale Alumni Association proudly hosted Thomians’ Avurudu Udawa 2025, bringing together generations of Thomians and sister schools in a vibrant celebration of Sinhala and Tamil New Year traditions.

With a proud history spanning 153 years, St. Thomas’ College, Matale continues to uphold values of unity, friendship, and community engagement. Supporting this legacy is the 38-year-old Alumni Association – Colombo Branch, which has consistently created opportunities to strengthen lifelong connections among old boys while preserving the traditions and spirit of the school.

Building on the success of previous celebrations, the 2025 edition of the event was held at Waters Villa, Pannipitiya, creating an ideal setting for a memorable day of fellowship and celebration.

The event continued the spirit established through previous New Year gatherings that brought together schools across Matale, including Government Vidya Vidyalaya, St. Thomas’ Girls’ College, Sanghamittha Girls’ College, Vijaya Vidyalaya, and Christudeva Vidyalaya, creating a unique platform that unites school communities through culture and tradition.

Thomians’ Avurudu Udawa 2025 featured an exciting lineup of traditional Sinhala New Year games and sports competitions, encouraging participation across all age groups. The day was filled with energy, laughter, friendly competition, and moments that reflected the true meaning of Avurudu—togetherness, respect, and celebration.

More than just a festival, the event served as a meaningful reunion that strengthened relationships among alumni, families, and fellow school communities from Matale, while creating lasting memories for everyone who attended.

The Colombo Branch extends its sincere appreciation to all participants, sponsors, organizers, and well-wishers whose support contributed to the success of this special gathering.

Thomians’ Avurudu Udawa 2025 once again demonstrated that traditions continue to thrive when communities come together with pride, friendship, and the enduring Thomian spirit.
