MOTA Colombo Hosts Spectacular 'Hockey Day' Event Celebrating Thomian Spirit

MOTA Colombo proudly organized an unforgettable ‘Hockey Day’ event, epitomizing the rich heritage and sporting legacy of St. Thomas’ College, Matale.
The event at St. Thomas’ College Matale on 16th March 2024 brought together various activities. Attendees were treated to a series of memorable moments, including the distribution of T-shirts and Bibs to all age group teams, a special honour bestowed upon Senior Thomian Past National Players, and felicitation of the school hockey coach. Mr. Lakshan Silva, a distinguished figure, graced the occasion as the chief guest, delivering an inspiring speech that resonated with all present. Additionally, the Matale Old Thomian Hockey Association contributed significantly by distributing sticks and T-shirts, further enriching the event’s atmosphere.
A captivating friendly match between past and present players ensued, with the school eleven emerging victorious with a score of 2-1. Dr. Ranawake, renowned for his expertise in sports medicine, enlightened parents and players with an insightful lecture, while Senior Thomian Lalith Karunadasa provided a compelling overview of the school’s illustrious hockey history.
The event also featured a stimulating panel discussion on the game and life, facilitated by esteemed past players, including Niranjan Ellepola, Chaaminda Suduarachchi, Indike Hewawasam, Charitha Senanayake, and Asanga Wijekoon.
Expressing gratitude for the remarkable initiative, Chaaminda Suduarachchi was commended for conceptualizing ‘Hockey Day,’ with special acknowledgement to Charitha Senanayake for its seamless execution alongside the unwavering support of the entire MOTA Colombo Executive Committee, Principal and the staff. Apart from the MOTA Colombo Team, Presidents and Executive Committee members of Mother OBA, Kandy, and Tri-Services and MOTHA participated in the event.
